20 January 2018, Hong Kong: Organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation), subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, together with the full support of Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited as the Title Sponsor for the fifth consecutive year, the Public Voting Announcement Press Conference for the “Samsung 2017 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” (Awards) was held today at Olympian City to announce the public voting details.
Officiating VIPs included Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, Miss Carmen MAN, Head of Marketing Communication / Associate Director of IT and Mobile Communication Business, Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited, Ms. LOU Wai Yi, Rebecca, Assistant Director (Leisure Services) 2 of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Ms. Vivien LAU, BBS, JP, Vice President of the Federation cum Chairperson of Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Organizing Committee and Prof. LEUNG Mee-lee, MH, Hon. Deputy Secretary General of the Federation. Nominated athletes and teams also attended the event to promote the Awards appealing to the public to cast their votes. To interact with the public an Autograph & Photos session for the nominees was held after the Press Conference. Activity counter and public voting counter were also arranged to promote the Awards and to encourage public voting.
This annual “Hong Kong Sports Oscar” aims to recognize the outstanding performance of Hong Kong athletes in 2017 and to create role models for youth in the community. This year, the Federation received a total of 133 nominations from 49 National Sports Associations competing for the six Awards categories, of which four categories namely the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport”, and “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event” are opened for Hong Kong community to vote for their favourite athletes or team/s. The athlete who gets the highest votes among the eight winners of the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” would be awarded the “Samsung Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award”.
The Awards Presentation Ceremony would be held on 27 March 2018 in the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre where the winners of the six categories would receive their awards in the presence of Government officials, dignitaries of the community and the member associations of the Federation.
From now until 14 February 2018, the public could visit the official website at https://sportstar2017.hkolympic.org to cast their votes. Each successful voter would automatically enter into the lucky draw and have a chance to win prizes sponsored by Samsung and Fitness First (Hong Kong) with a total value over HK$70,000 (Trade Promotion Competition Licence no.: 49888, 49889).
