21 November 2017, Hong Kong: An Announcement Press Conference was held at the Olympic House today to disseminate the details of the Samsung 2017 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards (Awards). Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, Ms. ZHAO Yiyin, Vice-President & Head of IT and Mobile Communication Business of Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited, Title Sponsor of the Awards, Mr. Kelvin LEUNG, Chief Leisure Manager (Sports Funding) of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Dr LAM Tai Fai, SBS, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited and Ms. Vivien LAU, BBS, JP, Vice President of the Federation cum Chairperson of Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Organizing Committee were the officiating VIPs at the Press Conference.
Medallists of this year’s Summer Universiade, National Games of the People’s Republic of China and Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were present at the event, including Miss LUI Lai Yiu (Athletics), Mr. Nicholas Edward CHOI (Fencing), Miss CHAN Kin Lok (Swimming), Mr. WONG Chun Hun (Tennis), Mr. TSE Chun Hin (Tenpin Bowling) and Miss MOK Uen Ying Juanita (Wushu), to show their support to the Awards.
Officiating VIPs accompanied by the above mentioned athletes, unveiled the important dates of the Awards as below:-
Nomination Period : 21 November 2017 – 22 December 2017
Public Voting Announcement Press Conference : 20 January 2018
Public Voting Period : 20 January 2018 – 14 February 2018
Awards Presentation Ceremony : 27 March 2018
To encourage public involvement and active participation in the Awards, the Federation will continue to organize the public voting through the website. Details of public voting will be announced at the Public Voting Announcement Press Conference on Saturday, 20 January 2018 at Olympian City. Sports reporters from local media organizations will also be invited to vote for their favourite athletes.
The results of the Awards will be announced in the Awards Presentation Ceremony cum Annual Dinner of the Federation on Tuesday, 27 March 2018 at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
During the Press Conference, Mr. T. FOK announced that the cash awards for all categories would be increased, with a total value of HK$620,000. He also urged the National Sports Associations (NSAs) to nominate their best athletes to support the Awards.
